Join Lori Hamilton, wife of late NASCAR racing legend Bobby Hamilton, as she encourages people to get free oral, head and neck cancer screenings at the Allstate 400 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Free screenings will be offered on July 25 from 9 am – 3 pm and July 26 from 9 am – 2 pm in Museum Lot of The Brickyard.
According to the American Cancer Society, this year more than 87,560 Americans will be diagnosed with cancers of the head and neck. Representatives from the Indianapolis University School of Medicine and the Head and Neck Cancer Alliance will be volunteering their efforts to assist in the free screenings. The screening process involves a quick and painless examination by a trained healthcare professional.
When head and neck cancer is caught early through screening, the average survival rate is more than 90 percent.
Funding provided by Bristol-Myers Squibb and ImClone Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Eli Lilly and Company.


Ann Durgun recieves a suprise $10,000 donation from ImClone Systems Incorporated on behalf of the Head and Neck Cancer Alliance. The donation was presented to her at the 2008 American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting in Chicago.

HAMPTON, GA – March 7- 8, 2009 – Lori Hamilton, wife of famous cup driver Bobby Hamilton, teamed up with NASCAR this weekend to provide free screening for head and neck cancer at Atlanta Motor Speedway during the Kobalt Tools 500. Bobby Hamilton was the 2004 Craftsman Truck Series champion and a four-time cup winner at NASCAR's highest level before his death from head and neck cancer in 2007.
Additionally, Lori Hamilton appeared on Sirius NASCAR radio’s “The Morning Drive” on March 5, speaking with hosts Mike Bagley & David Poole about her advocacy work surrounding oral, head and neck cancer awareness. She also discussed her personal experiences with Bobby’s diagnosis and treatment.
If you missed this weekend’s screening, there will be another opportunity for a free examination nationwide during April’s Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week (OHANCAW).
