Awareness

PDFPrintE-mail

The Head and Neck Cancer Alliance seeks to promote awareness and educate the public about head and neck cancers. A key target for increasing the activity directed toward head and neck cancer prevention is making these cancers a visible component of preventive programs for tobacco-related diseases. In addition to year-round events and awareness efforts such as public service announcements, benefit concerts and walkathons, the Alliance sponsors Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week (OHANCAW), a week-long series of events to promote early detection and public awareness of this disease.  Find out more

The Head and Neck Cancer Alliance also provides community awareness talks to local area schools and organizations about head and neck cancer with an emphasis on prevention and the avoidance of tobacco products. In addition to educating the public about head and neck cancers, HNCA educates and instructs local dentists, physicians, and other primary health care providers about the use of oral cancer examinations as a part of early detection efforts. HNCA encourages physicians to identify patients who use tobacco and to counsel them about their risks of developing cancers of the head and neck region.

Research

The Head and Neck Cancer Alliance seeks to increase the speed of transition of science knowledge to practice. To achieve this, HNCA works with other organizations to increase federal, state and private funding for research on cancers of the head and neck region.

Professional Engagement

The Head and Neck Cancer Alliance engages physicians, dentists, survivors, celebrities and volunteers in its efforts to combat this disease. The involvement of physicians and other members of the medical community is a key part of early detection efforts, allowing for increased examinations for at-risk patients.

These alliances with medical and research communities throughout the country are integral to our success. We are grateful to all who have joined us in our continuing efforts.

Advocacy

PDFPrintE-mail

The Head and Neck Cancer Alliance serves as a major advocate for awareness, early detection and funding for research of cancers of the head and neck region. The goal and purpose of the HNCA is to increase the activity directed toward prevention by making these cancers a visible component of preventive programs for tobacco-related diseases. HNCA also seeks to provide one collective voice to impact appropriate legislative issues.

HNCA is dedicated to advancing and championing the cause of head and neck cancer patients and their families. It is through advocacy that patients get the best medical information, support and care available.

Survivorship

HNCA works to support those affected by these cancers by helping to improve their quality of life and aims to empower and involve survivors in strengthening all efforts to control head and neck cancers. Such involvement in the past has included participating in school talks, public speeches, PSAs, fundraising and other integral functions.
